Lists, Lists, and More Lists!

So I'm pretty detail-oriented when I'm interested in said details. In an effort to actually keep track of the books I read, in 2005 I made a list that's turned into the annual book list you see here. But that wasn't enough. See, I love using Excel (despite that fact that evil Microsoft makes it), and I created a "Book ( Read more... )

Memorize? Wow. My brain would implode if I tried that. :)

You're welcome, and thank YOU!

I've a list to keep track of what I read, one to keep track of where it goes in my book ban rules and one to keep track of new-to-me authors. ^-^ But my lists are really quite basic. The most detailed thing I keep track of is what the original language of the book is.

I also keep track of my TBR pile on LT and GR. Yes, both.

It's because I use LT to track the books I own in the manner I own them in. GR I use to keep track of the individual volumes in the omnibuses I own. (The numbers are screwed up somewhere, though. I'm too lazy to figure out why and fix it.)

Interesting. Though I'm curious, the no-book-buying in a month means you can buy one book thing confuses me a bit, or maybe that's because if it were me, I'd buy that book as a preemptive reward!

I definitely keep a spreadsheet for my reading list, using Google Docs, and even include the sum features to calculate how many pages I've read during the year or how long it took me to read each book. (This year I was curious and even included a price column to figure up how much it cost to read this year's lot. 20 books cost us $76.18.) I don't keep track of new releases as I almost never have the luxury of buying something new; not being a driver and having an income of $0 kind of hinders reading newer things. Used bookstores and a supportive boyfriend are what I rely on for books, though I would totally frequent the library if one were even close to being within walking distance. Otherwise I use Goodreads to keep a to-read list of books that sound interesting, regardless of release. (Though one could also create a 'shelf' for books they're waiting to see released. Or even use Google Calendars for specific dates that include email alerts ( ... )

I used to have text lists and I keep a list of books I own on my Palm so I don't buy books I already have when I go to used bookstores, but most of my organizing is taking place on LibraryThing now (I'm a tag-aholic). I even have a special collection on LT for my trades in progress for both Paperback Swap and BookMooch. For forthcoming books, I have a special Amazon wishlist just for to-be-released books. I also have a GoodReads account just for books I've read and books I plan to read for the next month or so. And I keep track here on my LJ of my 50/75+ book challenge reads for the year.
