I understand what you mean about the world-building, but I always pictured the tech more 1800ish (pre steam-power, but just) rather than medieval. Yes, it's got keeps and castles and horses but so did Europe in the 1800's. I can't remember off-hand if it's a gunpowder world...

But then, I'm mashing medieval tech with modern in my thesis, so I'm not really bothered by modern-ish and pre-modern co-existing, as long as it's consistent.

I haven't read Storm Glass yet. Up to my eye-balls in SHU work.

Yeah, I'm really bad about my mental understanding of architecture and time periods. It goes from medieval in my mind (castles, etc) straight to Victorian era London. I don't know WHY, but that's my stupid brain for ya! :)

Have fun with SHU work!

I had just seen this book and was wondering about it since no one I know has ever read any of her work so I'm happy to see this review today. Good to know that I should start with another book before diving into this series.

As far as your reviews (too lazy to go back to last post), I can usually count on your "premise" and rating sections to tell me all I need to know about whether I want to check out the book or not. So yeah, just thought I'd let you know. Am happy to see your reviews any way you do them though because I've gotten a lot of good recommendations from browsing your journal.
