Theme Park Notifications
Hello, all Book Clubbers!
It's not even 2012 yet, but we've already selected TWO of our reads for Theme Park! But in the voting process, I learned that some people are missing the posts. Either they don't get the chance to vote, or they miss the results. All of this is related to how often they check my blog and/or how quickly my posts move off their friends list.
I've been debating doing a SINGLE, monthly email that would be very similar to the Weekend Updates: Links du Jour posts I do every Saturday. In theory, I would have an email that would tell you the following:
1) What we're currently reading and the discussion date.
2) What we're currently voting on and when the deadline to vote is.
3) A link to the current discussion (whatever that is).
4) A list of upcoming Theme Park selections.
5) Any other news or requests I may have, like ideas for themes or something.
The idea would be to send it out at the first of the month, so that I can include the poll. Now, remember I said that nobody is required to sign up for the 2012 Book Club. For those of you who don't want to bother with email, there is one other option if you're an LJ user. Did you know that you can receive alerts any time I make a post? What about alerts any time I make a post with a certain tag? All book club posts have the same tag "blog: book club" and you can set up your message board to do just that.
Here's how:
1) Visit my profile here: http://calico-reaction.livejournal.com/profile
2) On the right-hand side, click "Track User"
3) The first option you get will be "calico reaction posts a new entry tagged" and then there's a drop-down menu for you to pick which tag you want to follow. I apologize for the LONG drop-down menu, but the tag you're looking for is "blog: book club"
4) Once selection, on the right hand side of the page, select your delivery method. You can pick email, inbox, IM, or LJ Alerts. I usually go inbox, but that's me. You can pick as many options as you want.
5) After you've got everything lined up how you want it, just click save.
That's great, right? But where do you check your inbox? Just go to any main LJ page or profile page that shows your icon in the upper left-hand corner with your LJ name, the option to log out, post and MESSAGES. See that handy messages link? If you have a message or an alert, there will be a number beside messages (like right now, mine says "Messages (4)". Click it, and you can read the posts you've selected to track. Easy as pie!

Or you can just sign up for the email update and I promise to send you only ONE email a month unless it's an EXTREME situation (like the book club getting delayed or canceled or something).
