And now, the results of the February Challenge!
Whew! What a close race! People seemed really excited about February's selections, and for a while, every book had its turn at the lead. But after 61 awe-inspiring votes, I'm pleased to announce the winner is . . .

Butler's a favorite of mine. You know this. And it seems we're starting a tradition of reading Butler's work in February, because after all, last February, we discussed her Kindred. If I keep the book club going in 2012, I'll be tempted to just name February "Octavia E. Butler" month and be done with it!
At any rate, I'm thrilled with the choice, and look forward to reading it come February.
But remember: no matter which book wins, I'll be reading ALL of the selections. That's right: so if your favorite book didn't win and you just can't bring yourself to read the challenge book, read the one you want and you'll be able to comment on my review! But note this: I'm obligated to read and finish our book club selection and post that review at the end of the month (in this case, February). That isn't true for the other selections, which means I can read them whenever I please. :) But as always, and as on any review, you're more than welcome to participate in whatever discussion that pops up!

Who can participate?
Anyone who's interested in the book. You don't have to have an LJ to participate in the challenge. Just read the book sometime between NOW and the month of FEBRUARY and then feel free to engage in discussion at the end of the month. Or, if you have a book blog of your own, post your review there and provide me with a link in mine. :) For your sake, I'll hold off posting my review until the end of FEBRUARY so no one feels rushed to finish the book. I want people to read at their own speed and to enjoy themselves.
Also, you DO NOT have to participate in the discussion to participate in the CHALLENGE, but you get points for both reading and commenting. While I love the discussion, I look very closely at the number of people who read the book for the challenge, so feel free to read even if you're not comfortable commenting! :)
As always, feel free to talk about the book challenge and encourage others to read what you are. After all, the more the merrier!

Any time between NOW and February 28th. As long as you read the selection within this particular time frame, you've participated. This way, if you're a slower reader, you've got much more time. :) And if you're a fast reader, and want to participate in the discussion with the book fresh on your mind, then go ahead and wait until February!

Get your hands on the book. You can buy, borrow, or swap, but please try and get your hands on the book. If you're having trouble finding this book, let me know and I'll try and point you in the right direction. However, this book has been available for almost ten years and has been published in several different formats. You should be able to find it new or used, whatever your fancy, without much trouble. But if you DO have trouble, let me know!
Also: sign up when I post the reminder in February letting me know you're gonna try and participate. It's a good way for me to gauge just how many participants we'll have, and by February 1st, you should know if you can get your hands on the book or not. But don't delay! On Friday, December 10th, I'd scheduled the review for Sharon Shinn's Archangel. That is getting pushed back to Monday, December 13th for a couple of reasons, mainly because I'm behind on my reading of Under Heaven and I'd rather you have two reviews next week than three this week and one the next (because I'm not sure when I'll finish the Kay and that review won't post until the end of the month anyway).
