VOTE: May Challenge

Mar 03, 2010 12:17

It seems that announcing challenges two months in advance is working out for some people, especially for those of you battling library waiting lists, so unless I get an outraged cry to STOP announcing these so early, let's move on to May's vote, shall we?

The theme: Philip K. Dick Award Female Nominees (you probably haven't heard of)

This is sort of an odd theme. It started out as "SF Written By Women," and when I started pulling titles from my own shelves, I discovered that some were out of print, some were volumes in a series that I didn't know existed (oops!) and none of them really gelled together in a theme. So I started browsing my Amazon.com wishlist, and at the same time, I was browsing the archives for the PKD Award and realized there was a lot of overlap. I also realized that some of the books I was interested in are written by women that really aren't "Big Name Authors," which means there's a good chance that some (most?) of you haven't heard of them. I wanted books that seemed to have a space-oriented story, and these were the titles I finally settled on:

Andrea Hairston: Mindscape
Nina Kiriki Hoffman: Catalyst
Justina Robson: Natural History
Karen Traviss: City of Pearl

Remember, pick the book that interests you the most. Even if this isn't your genre of choice, the idea is to challenge yourself. Read something new. You never know, you might like it. :)

Know what you want to read? Then it's time to vote!

Poll May Challenge

Please note, I will not vote unless it is to break a tie.

You've got until midnight, Wednesday March 10th to make your decision. Vote for the book that YOU want to read the most, and if you're torn, tough. You gotta pick one. :) If you've already read ALL of the books, pick the one you'd most like to re-read. If you're not participating, then maybe next month will bring something more to your liking. :)

I'll announce the official winner on March 11th, so don't pick up your copy (whether you buy or borrow) until I make it official. Unless, of course, all of these books are so appealing to you that you must have them all. In that case, have fun and start reading! :)
