Are you ready for a book bag of EPIC PROPORTIONS? Because in the past few weeks, I've been wrestling with computers and waiting for Photoshop to be installed, and now I FINALLY get to post this sucker. But unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), there's a TON of books. Which is why I'm being kind by using an LJ cut, but to get the total number of titles, which adds up to 14 books? You gotta click the cut!
Here's the tease (WARNING: two of these books are my husband's doing):
Dellamonica, A.M.: Indigo Springs (Hastings): so I found this sucker though Amazon quite by accident, and I was IMMEDIATELY taken in by the cover. Isn't it GORGEOUS? I also recognized the author's name, as I read a short story of hers in Lou Anders Fast Forward anthology. When I saw the book in person, I just couldn't resist. Again: LOOK AT THAT COVER.
Westerfeld, Scott: Leviathan (Hastings): I broke my rule. See, I've already got a Scott Westerfeld title WAITING on me to read it, but I picked this sucker up anyway. I'd been going back and forth on whether or not I want to read it, but when I saw it in person, I thought, "What the hell?" and grabbed it. Westerfeld's a good writer, so we'll see if the story itself catches my interest.
Stoker, Dacre: Dracula: The UnDead (Hastings): did you know that there's an OFFICIAL sequel to Bram Stoker's Dracula? This is it! Just came out, written by Dacre Stoker, Bram's great-great-nephew (or something like that) and another author, Ian Holt. This is the hubby's pick, because even though he thinks Dracula is one of the WORST books he ever read, he wants to give this a shot. Will I read it? I've still got to read Dracula, folks!
Brown, Dan: The Lost Symbol (Hastings): I tried to resist, and I'd been doing well. I'd been happily ignoring this title every time I saw it in WalMart. However, my husband--even though he hasn't read a Dan Brown book at all--is really interested in the movies, and he's determined to get first edition hardcovers of Brown's books since they're such big sellers. Will he read it? Probably. Will I read it? Maybe... I did read The DaVinci Code, after all. But this is NOT a priority at all.
Johnson, Alaya Dawn: Racing the Dark (Amazon): duh! November Book Club selection! I've clearly got MY copy. Have you got yours? I'm not reading it yet, but it's next in the TBR pile. :)
Whitfield, Kit: In Great Waters (Barnes & Noble): after reading and really loving Whitfield's
Benighted, I couldn't resist a new title of hers. Granted, it's a completely different, unrelated storyline, but I'm looking forward to it. It, too, is VERY high on the TBR pile, unless I get distracted. :)
Warrington, Freda: Elfland (Amazon): I tried to resist, but in the end, I failed. It's not the cover art, but rather a mix of the title and premise that just kept knocking on my brain begging to come in. I'd like to read this one soon, but there's a stack of fantasy in my way, so we'll see. :)
Spencer, Wen: A Brother's Price (Amazon): I blame
janicu. And some of my friends from grad school. I've heard great things about this author, and this book, so it's time to give it a shot. How soon? Not a clue. I need to learn how to read via osmosis. :)
Andrews, Ilona: Magic Bites (Barnes & Noble): this has been on my consideration list FOREVER, but a couple of people finally warmed me into reading it (
janicu and
revolutionsheep). I've been warned that the series gets better from here, but that it's still good, so we'll see. If I don't, I blame them. :)
Gray, Ava: Skin Tight (Barnes & Noble): I forgot all about this title until I saw the review at
genrereviews. Why did I forget? Because even though this is written by one of my favorite authors (Ava Gray is the pen name for ANN-FREAKIN-AGUIRRE), I hate the cover so much I repressed the book from my mind. But you guys, it's Aguirre. I have to read it. Even though I hate the cover. :-/
McGuire, Seanan: Rosemary and Rue (Barnes & Noble): I BLAME ALL OF YOU!!! Notice all the blame I'm spreading this round? But seriously. I keep hearing so many good reviews that said reviews have worn-down my anti-fairy resistance (or should that be fairy resistance? Who knows!) Again, this is one I'm not sure when I'll get to it, but if I don't like it, I BLAME ALL OF YOU!!! ;)
Egan, Greg: Dark Integers and Other Stories (Subterranean Press): so I first heard of this collection through a discussion about the television show Lost of all things, and I read one of Egan's stories in
The New Space Opera. I liked it well enough to want to read more by the author, so I jumped on this collection when I saw the chance. But this poor sucker's going to wait for the SF mood to hit me. Not the "SciFi" mood either: the actual SF mood. We'll see when that happens! :)
Crewe, Megan: Give Up the Ghost (Barnes & Noble): this is an example of how NOT being an ass online can really win you some favors. Especially if you post interesting, thoughtful content on a widely-traveled blog. I've been LOVING Megan Crewe's "StoryPsych" blog entries at Tor.com, so despite my dislike of the cover (it's PRETTY and that's the problem. It's too PRETTY), I decided to give the book a go and pray the book is as sharp and intelligent as the author is online.
Freeman, Pamela: Full Circle (Barnes & Noble): I wasn't going to get this right away, since I haven't even read the second book in the trilogy, but I saw it at Barnes & Noble today and had to grab it. The Castings Trilogy is on my "must-complete" series list, so I wanted the third book available for when I decide to pick up book two. It may be soon. I'm kind of rotating my serials between genres right now, so we'll see. :)
That's it! Did you EVER think it'd end? And here I thought November wouldn't be a big month, but hell, it's not even over yet! Somebody stop me! :) Or not... buying books is too much fun, especially since I plan on selling some old ones. :)
What about you? What books have you gotten that YOU'RE excited about lately?
