VOTE: December Challenge

Nov 12, 2009 23:00

All right, enough of you want challenge books announced far more in advance, so announce we shall! Let's get December decided, shall we?

The theme: Classic Fantasy

This theme is a wee bit of a misnomer. For starters, all of the books selected, while definitely classic, are also found in the children/young adult section. But frankly, when I was brainstorming ideas for December, I didn't want to come up with something you'd have to buy (due to the holidays), and I also couldn't force myself to do an inspirational/spiritual theme (because I didn't think I'd be able to stomach the read myself). That left me with the idea of reading fantasy books that are classic and cherished and tend to give people warm fuzzies.

But there was a catch. While I could think of the classics that did this for me (The Hobbit, The Chronicles of Narnia), I did not want to select a title for the poll that I'd already read. There's a lot of classics out there that I HAVEN'T read, so this gives me a good excuse to tackle one of them.

However, perhaps the book selected will be a re-read, a comfort read, for you. But feel free to shake your head at the unfortunate lack in my fantasy diet. I will say this though: I have seen the movies for the Beagle and the Ende, so I'm not THAT bad. :)

So here are the choices, as well as the links to their descriptions on Amazon.com:

Peter S. Beagle: The Last Unicorn
Lord Dunsany: The King of Elfland's Daughter
Michael Ende: The Neverending Story
Madeleine L'Engle: A Wrinkle in Time

I would ask that if possible, select a book you haven't read yet. Challenge yourself. And don't pick something just because you plan on watching the movie instead, okay? ;)

Know what you want to read? Then it's time to vote!

Poll December Challenge

Please note, I will not vote unless it is to break a tie.

You've got until midnight, Friday November 20th to make your decision. Vote for the book that YOU want to read the most, and if you're torn, tough. You gotta pick one. :) If you've already read ALL of the books, pick the one you'd most like to re-read. If you're not participating, then maybe next month will bring something more to your liking. :)

I'll announce the official winner on November 21st, so don't pick up your copy (whether you buy or borrow) until I make it official. Unless, of course, all of these books are so appealing to you that you must have them all. In that case, have fun and start reading! :)
