Jessica, you look absolutely stunningin your new kimono! What a precious gift, and a testament to how much this lady must like you! Cool story, cool friendship across demographic divides. You know that Zen rock garden? We have one near my home in the Huntington Gardens that looks just like that one! It's actually quite remarkable. I'll take you there when you come visit me in California!!!!

Did they have Kenshin clothes? Not at this particular shop, no. To be honest, I'm not sure where to find secondhand guys clothes, I haven't even seen many new ones (hakama and men's kimono and such) at the regular shops. To be honest, Japanese men wear formal kimono even less often than women do, so I think that's why they're harder to find, there just isn't that much demand for them.

A word of hope Asa; you may find it hard to believe right now, but someday your years of school will be over, and you too can apply to the JET program or another one like it (because there are several, JET just happens to be the biggest) and come to Japan :) Just remember, you need to have a college degree. Sometimes I actually miss the days where all I had to worry about was coming to school and sitting in a classroom staring at the walls. I don't miss the people I went to school with, but I do miss school itself. Don't be too jealous, with a little patience and hard work you can do cool stuff in Japan too :)
