Yo-Yo Ma On Recorded Music At Inauguration

Ha, I SO called this one! I knew watching the inauguration Tuesday that there was no way in 20 degree, windy weather that they could be playing that perfectly. They pre-recorded the music on Sunday and then played along to it, with some tricks applied to their instruments to keep them silent. Rather clever, really ( Read more... )

I was commenting on the same thing, because we did the same thing with my clarinet - and added to that, when I did play in weather that cold that my fingers were so cold that I could barely finger the notes even though I knew the music cold.

Yeah, totally, we had to wear gloves with the fingers cut off so we could feel our keys to play since they're small, and our poor fingers would freeze in that weather. Ugh, not fun. That guy's clarinet would never have sounded that good out there, especially with the wind blowing and probably cutting off his sound in mid note :P

That makes sense to me. And it's not like they did that because Yo-Yo Ma wasn't pretty enough to be on TV or something. He was pantomiming to his own music. I'd be miffed if he was pantomiming to someone else's music.

I ... oh people. Heh - it makes perfect sense - and was the only thing to do. Ask any of those performers to ruin their gorgeous instruments? Uh, no. Anyone who expected them to play live likely not only never listens to such music... but doesn't deserve to.
< / snark> - heh apparently I've been keeping that in today.
