Getting excited about Yuletide inspired me to reread Dragonflight, which prompted me to ramble about why I love Dragonflight.

Could you please explain where you see sexism and homophobia in any of the novels?

This is the second time around I came across your (and others') wish for Dragonrider fic, it's the second time I consider writing a potential treat for one of those asking for any Pern, but again I am quite put off by these comments and sort of backpedalling already.

Homophobia - Riders of bronze and brown dragons, who are the only ones who are eligible for leadership positions in the Weyrs, are always straight, while blue riders and male green riders, who are lower in status and considered of lesser capability, are always gay. Blue rider and male green rider characters tend to be portrayed as effeminate, overly emotional, and lacking in intelligence (P'tero and M'leng from Dragonseye/Red Star Rising being the most notable example). And that's not even getting into the tent peg thing ( ... )
