Ooh, 6 months? I very much pity you. Two weeks is about the most I've gone, and that was more than enough to drive me completely bonkers.

Yes, vacations are much funner when with companions of own choosing.

Hawaii itself was plenty nice, actually, it was just the circumstances that sucked.
