I got a nosebleed yesterday morning. I didn’t know what it was, at first; I’m forty-nine years old, and this was my first one. Ever.

Fortunately, I was with Mark, who gets them with some frequency; he was able to tell me what to do (pinch your nostril shut gently; sit up straight or maybe even tilt your head back a little; don’t freak out; kleenex ( Read more... )

I am definitely happier than I've ever been...even if I'm also anxious about money...

Boy, do I ever know this! The pattern in Enterprise is that I write like a maniac a good chunk of the time, with occasional excursions for walks, to the barn, or to run occasional errands to Joseph (7 miles away) or--wow!--20 miles to Wallowa. As it turns out, we use maybe half a tank of gas for the three weeks or so that we're here.

Now that it's snow season, we're pretty much seen as locals. Lots of waves. But it's pretty quiet and we don't entertain much.

Meanwhile, I'm now trying to get back into shape after moving and then ripping up my ankle after the horse fall. Oy. I told myself it was Not A Good Idea To Lose Condition after age 55, and boy is it ever true. OTOH, I do have an elevation assist (3800 feet).

I find it unlikely that I will regain the yoga practice I had in my early thirties. But I can certainly be stronger and fitter than I am right now! I mean, I was just a few months ago; it's not like I have years of neglect to repair. And already in just the few weeks I've been concentrating on it, I'm feeling much better and stronger. And I wore jeans yesterday. :-)

Yes, to all those things, though my hot flashes have almost disappeared completely (finally, and good riddance!). I have an age spot on the side of my nose, and one appeared recently on my hand. I desperately need to lose weight, but menopause has started thickening my waist and it's much harder to lose than it was ten years ago. I want to have a working body again.

I got pretty lucky with the hot flashes, I realize. :-)

But oh yes, the meno-pot is definitely a thing.
