I had vaguely heard of al-Megrahi's innocence and meant to look into it, so thanks for the link. The US is full of crazy people.

In this case, it's not so much that they're crazy; it's that the administration has little choice but to cry foul and the public know only what they're told - that a mass-murderer of Americans is being released.

It's a very dirty business.

the usual suspects would be bleating about having to pay for his palliative care. Fact is in what some Americans regard as a third world country :S there was no way he would die actually in gaol. They would have had to move him to a palliative care unit or hospice which are licence to give the level of morphine needed in EOL care.
