Caleb rolls onto his back, tiredly staring at the ceiling as he catches his breath.

This was exactly what he needed. And not just the nightcap - though that was nice, too - but the whole evening. It was nice to be treated like a person, and not an inconvenience. It was nice to feel like someone wanted him around ( Read more... )

"Hey." A pillow snaps him from his revelry. "You're playing host. That means you get the water."

There's a giggle as the blonde beside him manages to roll away, dragging bed sheets and blankets with her. "No tap."

“Fair deal,” he says. The door of the mini-fridge pops open, and a bottle of Evian levitates towards Mara. “Heads up, laskat.”

"Cheat-ing," Mara sing-songs back. "The whole point is you being inconvenienced and expending effort."

She reaches for the bottle, though, even if sitting up isn't on the priority list right now. She flops over the other way, poking her head out from the wrappings to look at him. "Let's negotiate," she mumbles through a grin.

He rolls onto his side, propping up on his elbow. “Negotiate?” he asks playfully. “Didn’t you just play your biggest card?” A snicker.

"Besides, I'm rather sure that counts. I'm bending the laws of physics to get you a bottle of water. That's not one you see everyday, I think it's an exception."

The whole thing about the ex and her current gets an impressed, it not completely to be believed, look out of Mara. She's heard enough about this girl, and there are still pictures of her around. Caleb probably doesn't know Mara saw him turn the girl's picture down on the way through the hall.

Mara's face works up an uncomfortable smirk. It's weird to hear your date refer to people making them hungry. It's gotta be just as much for him. She sits up a little herself but doesn't open distance, really. "I'm not afraid of you," she says plainly.

"I certainly hope not," he answers, hands wandering around her waist line. "I'm harmless."

Her hands stop his, firmly. "Stop jokin' around, I'm bein' serious."

She looks at him, right at him. It's like everytime but this time with intent. Mara's never averted his stare and she never will, and she doesn't expect him to dodge her, either. They're not serious enough to fib to each other. "She's terrified of you, isn't she? That's why you act like you don't care one minute, and then you're King High Freak the next."

He’s caught off guard, but he stops, and meets her eyes. It takes a moment to force the first word out, but once he does, the rest just come.

“Yes. A, uh …. about a year and a half ago, I was possessed by the demon Neron. It made me try to kill her.”
