I'm staying up to watch the US election. I have some wine. Currently, there's a very sensible American on the BBC live coverage saying "trickle down economics is bullshit". He didn't actually say bullshit, but that's what he meant

I think THINK he MIGHT have said something about "give your shit awy to the poor and rich people ain't getting into Heaven unless they can shrink themselves to like a millimetre and I DON'T THINK ANY OF YOU HAVE SHRINKING POWER." I think.
Sometimes I think they might have QUITE A LOT of mistranslated Bibles that say "everyone who isn't a straight, white rich man" instead of "poor". IT'S A MISTAKE ANYONE COULD MAKE.
I started laughing as soon as that guy described evangelicals as "highly educated," because this is a group that not only thrives on ignorance, they frequently home-school their kids so that they won't be exposed to the big, wide world and all its reality.
It's an attempt to compensate for the viewer hearing "evangelical Christian". We're bad enough when we here "Christian" in reference to politics. Which I approve of.
I know that practically all Americans I know are Doctor Who fans and therefore people of taste and discernment, but my experience does make it Really Tricky to believe people actually support Romney. I mean, I know they do, obviously, but the belief is dubious.
Not cosmically speaking *that* many people actually support *Romney* - look at how much trouble he had with the nomination. Thing is, lots and lots and lots of people support "Not the Democrat" and "not the incumbent" and especially "not the black guy" and would vote for Satan himself in opposition.
Sadly, 3 of them are my parents and sister. I am somewhat dreading my mum's visit next week. Possibly as my mum was telling me about a Romney rally she went to, I accidently let my mobile phone die.
I am extremely nervous because I have no faith at all in large swathes of my fellow Americans. Also, I don't have the money to move to another country.
My fingers are crossed, but there's still so many votes they haven't counted yet. :/
(Also, my state is leaning in the wrong direction. Fuck you, Carolina, if I had the money to live somewhere that valued my rights I would be out of here so fast.)
I wish I believed that too...I watched 60 seconds of coverage and had to turn the telly off, I was so ill. I don't know what the hell I'll do if Romney wins.
It's not just Obama, though. It's Congress. Although I am delighted to announce that the special snowflakes who didn't understand rape have both had their asses handed to them. One by a woman.
Still, if Congress stays Republican, it's 4 more years of gridlock. It looks like the Dems are edging up in the House, but the Senate is pretty red.
Yeah, it feels a bit like a hollow victory in some respects (especially for me, considering the blasted state I live in)--but, on the other hand, small steps of PROGRESS. I'll take what I can get right now.

It's not that large swaths of Americans hate themselves, it's that they're Fox News watchers and frankly... the very definition of pig-ignorant.
