In straightening up my desk area yesterday, I ran across my folder of poetry I wrote when I was a teenager. I had pretty good teenage years, overall. But oh! the angst! When I read the poems, though, I can remember just what I felt then. They weren't very good poems--some were quite bad!--but they certainly captured how I felt ( Read more... )

I love this song! One of the bits of handed-down music I had growing up was a record by The Seekers that had been my mom's, so I'm more familiar with their version (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ouh6YgoH100).

And isn't it neat how often the song you need comes along just when you need it?

I'm thankful (being an agnostic vacillating between atheism and awe in Places Of Power, including many medieval British cathedrals) I'm not sure to whom or what) that I've never written anything like Poetry. Essays, written ... ummm... I'm tempted to say "when I was under thirty", but maybe "... sixty" would be better... that I sometimes come across seem terrible enough ( ... )

I wondered for years why I liked that song when I didn't really care one way or another about the other work of the band that covered it (Cyrkle, I think), and then I found out that Paul Simon co-wrote it.

I love this song. The tune and words just go together perfectly. I have a "bouncy up songs" iTunes playlist, and this song is on it.
