There's a bit in today's paper about how Bush's people were highly offended by O's inauguration speech ... some such stuff about how they felt O was making pointed jabs with his comments about how the U.S. will lead again, he'll make the hard decisions, etc. Blah, blah, blah ... sore losers, IMO. I did comment to the spouse last night, after watching news coverage of yesterday's political goings-on, that it is really great to have a President that seems to be smart (although time will tell regarding his decisions). The spouse wondered, that yes, he's sure the President is a very intelligent person, but he thinks that compared with what we've had the last 8 years, almost anything would be an improvement.
And I thought the same thing about Michelle's dress ... wondered where her purse was, like the one the Queen carries.

Awwww ... baby moving. I feel your discomfort and remember it (and the indigestion) well.
The spouse is correct. I'd have been relieved to have just about anyone else in office after Bush (okay, except maybe Cheney. Could he have looked more villainous when he was wheeled out? I don't think so.) And Obama is a REALLY new politician, when it comes down to it. But, I do believe he's appointed many good advisers, and he's intelligent enough to deal with the ton of information he's going to have to assimilate with this transition to power.
Yeah the baby in there is a mixture of cute and discomfort. :D I did have indigestion, but I've found the UK version of Tums, and am avoiding greasy foods overall, so it's gotten a lot better!
I liked Michelle's dress better than the one she wore once it was announced he'd become president elect. But yeah, it was very brocadish. I think a shorter woman would have been overwhelmed by all that heavy material. She looked great though. I think she can make just about anything look good.
Sounds like you're suffering from sciatica. I suffer from it occasionally but oddly enough never when I was pregnant (and it's supposed to be a common symptom of late-stage pregnancy). I can only suggest a heating pad. That always helps me.
yes indeed, I get sciatica at night. I've had it before, with my previous back troubles, but then it lasted all day. I can't describe this walking pain as being the same, because it doesn't radiate down my leg (which is what I associate with sciatica.) It just stays on the right side of my lower back.
I have a heating pad, but since it's the UK and it's winter, it's position is by my feet in bed. haha. Thanks for the suggestion, though. If it keeps happening after the birth, I'll give it a try. At the moment I'm buried in various pillows propping up the bump, my knees, etc.
You're right about her height. It certainly wouldn't have looked great on a shorter woman. I didn't even dislike the color like so many other people seem to have. I think I just found the whole ensemble a bit mother-of-the-bride, and didn't feel nearly as excited about it as many other people were.
.... and it just gets better and better. After a long day and a night of partying he was up and in church at eight-thirty in the AM and at work by ten, strict new ethics rules, press conferences nearly every day, undoing of some of the most onerous Bush mistakes, meeting not only with Congressional leaders but meeting with the Loyal Opposition alone an their own turf. I'm starting ro think there really is reason to Hope. Maybe he can bring us together on the right path..
highly recommending having a sip of the chili vodka some pub in town sells, in case any of us are getting desperate. There was a restaurant a few years ago where pregnant women flocked because the ladies swore that some kind of soup they sold kickstarted labor. It was a sight to see.
Hang in there. You're in the homestretch now. :)
I do not at all mean to take away from the Huge Historical Moment this is, that a country which was built on slavery has now elected president someone who, 200 years ago, wouldn't have even been considered human by law. However, he was voted into office by the majority of Americans, and the coverage really felt like it was forcing the one issueI don't discuss politics usually but I have to say that this election shows that we Americans have come a long way in the last 70 years. more than half of the people interviewed were black. yeah, I'd expect that. Indeed, I know more than half the audience was black. I think BBC estimated maybe a 60-40 split, and that was probably generous. I know it was a huge trip for many churches etc to make, to see this bit of history. I don't mean to minimize the unique importance of the event. I just was amazed that they (BBC) specifically only asked the black attendees what they were thinking.
And yeah.. I have to keep reminding myself to enjoy the little border while he lasts in there. The snuggling around is sweet. I could do without the other stuff, tho! :D
If I could walk without being in pain and having to shuffle like an 80 yr old, I'd be okay with this going on a while longer. But, I think a couple more weeks is all I can take of this immobility.
