Triple Chocolate Ripple Joconde

Last Thursday was my sister's 21st birthday. It was a given that I was going to make the cake. I told her with a week to go to have a think about what sort of cake she wanted. She had no idea. It's harder to think of ideas when you're not a baker - you're much less aware of the possibilities.

Oooh, that looks delicious~
But I think I'll start with trying a simple chocolate ripple. I've never done sth like this before.

Hopefully I can find cookies like that here. Can you describe them abit so I can find sth similar? :)

They're basically just a sweet chocolate biscuit (I think the ripple part of the name comes from the cracked texture texture). They have a really distinct flavour that I'm not sure where it comes from, but regardless you could sub any chocolate biscuit. Or any biscuit at all. I often use another Arnott's biscuit called Butternut Snap, which is an oat-ey sort of biscuit, and when it breaks down you get more of a fruit cake sort of result. The main thing is to sandwich them with a sweetened cream, but you can add anything to the cream you want. For the Butternut Snap version it's common to add things like crushed pineapple.

The possibilities are limitless, so I'd suggest beginning with your favourite biscuit and add any flavours that compliment it.

Another beautiful birthday cake. Looked very impressive, with the joconde imprime and garnishes. The cross section photo came out really good too. Oh, and it tasted pretty awesome too. ;)

Tasted pretty amazeballs. I forgot how much I love ripple cake. I should make it more often.
