Wow, could you be any more single minded and offensive?

Just because you may hate TV and haven't watched a show in so long you don't know how well written some of them out there are doesn't mean you can brand them all as "fake, ficticious plot lines".

Go read a book? Really? Because there's no possible way that there could be good writers out there telling their stories through the medium of TV...apparently, that's just ludicrous!

People are quite capable of have a 'life', as you put it, and still being daily inspired and affected by a story they love. For a one very small look at some of the awesome things fandom does check out help_chile where fans of all sorts of things have come together to make a difference in the world.

So instead of being wildly critical and 'saddened' by something you clearly know nothing about, how about being a little more open minded? Just because someone's not like you doesn't make them wrong or pathetic or messed or mean that they do any less good in the world, it just makes them different.

Y'know whreflections, there is much of what you say that has great validity, however i have also found much of what i said to be equally valid. I don't think my point is to ever say my way is the only way, but this writer's block forum is here to give us a platform to air our opinion and our slant on things from the perspective that life has taught us. While wildly different than most, i don't think i am single minded or closed minded any more than you are, what i do think is that because of so much time spent in front of TV, people are not getting out and doing for others as much as if they didn't have a TV. But that in itself is another conversation, as if not having a TV would change the character and nature of a person.

I appreciate your viewpoint and welcome disagreement. I certainly don't think any one person has all the answers. It is good to read apposing viewpoints. If i offended you with my opinion, please accept my apology. I guess i still believe it is okay to agree to disagree.

I can agree that some people may spend too much time in front of the TV, but from my experience those people aren't the ones that are usually fans of something in particular but rather people who just watch lots of TV because they don't have any real passions/hobbies that they spend time doing. Of course, I'm sure there are people out there that don't fit that stereotype that I have, either. So, I can understand thinking that people should be doing more things for others(though I do believe, as you brought up, that most people unfortunately wouldn't be doing that anyway).

Anyway, I do respect your opinion and can agree to disagree on that, and I'm sorry that I probably came across as really angry. Fandom has had a lot of important positive impacts in my own personal life and I've seen the same or more happen for others, so it just gets under my skin a little to hear run down with what looked like such an incomplete view of the real world of fandom.

I read your bio, and while i believe that i do not have a complete understanding of the total scope of what your involvement of Fandom is, it appears that you are not speaking of TV viewing as a hobby, but more of how some character or story has impacted you and then compelled you to go out and make a difference AND in that scope i do believe that a fictional character can bring inspiration, etc. But as i stated earlier, it is more important (in my way of thinking) to not just be a fan and pursue one's own pleasure of watching TV but to get out and get involved in a 3-deminsional life. To which i believe you are doing.

I actually think we are saying the same thing, but in different ways, because we are coming from a different perspective.

Have a blessed day!
