little lizard

my baby thinks she is a lizard. She loves to stick out her tongue over and over, just to taste the air. Maybe she has some other purpose, but she looks just like a little lizard (or giant flesh colored human shaped lizard) sticking out her tongue ( Read more... )

OK then I didn't post about it, lol!
In the hospital she wasn't breast feeding well. She didn't want it and the breast feeding lady said it was because Larkyn came early and she didn't look like she knew how to suck well. With the bottle, the milk kinda pours into their mouth if they chew on the nipple, but they have to actually suck on the boob to get it going. She told me to wait a few days and try again, and also to try a 'nipple shield'. It's this little soft flexible plastic thing that looks like the tip of a bottle nipple. You stick it over your nipple and it helps it not hurt as bad (cuz it hurts like a bitch) and helps lots of other problems you might be having. Larkyn still wouldn't do it with the nipple shield until after we got home. She rarely takes the naked breast, so it's a big deal when she does it. Today she did it AND it didn't hurt so bad that I wanted to cry, which is an even BIGGER accomplishment!

Yeah I think it sucks the nipple far up into the plastic thing. A lot of people use it if they have 'flat nipples'. Your nipple has to poke out enough for the baby to suck it into it's mouth, so this plastic thing gives the baby something to grab onto, then when they suck it pulls your nipple up into it. The more nipple you get into their mouth, the less it hurts, so it helps. It has 4 decent sized holes to suck the boobie juice out, lol

(it's ok! it lets me pretend to know stuff ;))

It's something that protects the mother's nipple, I believe. My wife used one when trying to breast-feed the oldest. Maybe Larkyn did not like the plastic - maybe she thought it felt like a binky.

no Larkyn DOES like the plastic, she usually won't feed unless we use it. That's why it was a big deal that she did it today without the shield, lol. We joke that she doesn't like bare skin, only plastic!
