This piece is inspired by the recent news of cuts to emergency surgery hours at the local hospital. It's part of a trend of declining services in rural areas which make me wonder about the future of the place I live in and love.I had a real ginchy feeling about the whole trip, even afore we set out, a sorta squirmy stomach clenching feeling, like ( Read more... )

Have I told you lately that you are incredible? Seriously, lost myself in this story, at first didn't know if I was in the past, present or future, but I knew where I was and who I was with, and I could see them and hear them, and feel how they felt.

The news of those cuts made me see red as well. Just...stupid. I understand not having scheduled surgeries but a hospital should be about the emergency services, before anything else.

I loved the character's voice - I'm from Southern Appalachia myself, and I like a good well-written rural character.

Extremely well-written story, and then the story you used - honestly, I think the idea is to let people die. Who lives in rural areas? Mostly poor working class people. And they're not needed anymore, and the money being used for them could be going into the pockets of the top 1%. So the thinking is - cut all their services and let them die.

There are times when I hate being forced to live on the same planet as the human species.

That's really scary- what an awful idea for making cuts.
