Signs of the Times

A late lunch today--I’ve been busy. A few quickies (no pun intended) that, in my opinion, reflect the times very well:

• From the “You Give Us 22 Minutes...” Department: Just as two city papers are no longer sustainable (hell, one isn’t even sustainable anymore), two “all-news” channels don’t make economic sense. So KNX and KFWB have diverged, and

I suspected KFWB was going all-entertainment when they started broadcasting themselves as "News...from Hollywood, the Entertainment Capital of the World" recently.

It's really too bad -- I preferred them over KNX. I found they were more focused on local news, plus there was less preemption for the old-tyme radio dramas KNX used to broadcast.

I agree with them--"It really doesn't make a lot of sense for two stations to try to be doing the same thing"--I could never tell the difference.

Well, I could in the old days when KFWB was a kick-ass rock station....

Sigh. If that was the philosophy for running radio stations, than we would have a lot fewer stations than we have today. Especially in the "automated top hits" genre. :-)
