CNN is reporting that Tara Rose McAvoy, the reigning Miss Deaf Texas, was walking Monday near railroad tracks when she was struck by a Union Pacific train. According to witnesses, the train sounded its horn right up until the accident occurred

well I was going to say, "duh she obviously didn't hear the train." Then your comment about her not feeling it kinda spooked me into thinking maybe her death wasn't accidental?

I am curious why she didn't feel the train coming; anyone who has worked with trains knows that you can generally feel the ground vibrate as a train approaches.

I was wondering that. My ASL instructor told us about that - most deaf folk pay more attention to vibrations, they have to keep their heads up/eyes open, etc.
