I am frustrated that the interest rate for subsidized loans is so much higher now. I found that paying off the loans I had was fairly painless, and the crazy low interest rate certainly helped. It started out 3.something, but then went down a point when I set it up to be automatically deducted from a bank account, and then went down another point after not missing a payment for two years. Something else knocked it down slightly because by around the 4-year mark the interest was less than 1%. (I never decreased my payments, so it was paid off faster than the 10-year schedule.) I tried to see if they still do that, but couldn't find any info. Might be worth checking into ( ... )

My parents paid for it, back when it was more affordable. I didn't have to go through this part of the process, so I can't really help. And even for me, I entered Davis back before Erin was born.

Tell me about it! I entered UCLA *long* before she was born ... during the first year of Jimmy Carter's presidency!
