I had my home visit from a lady from the Cat Protection league yesterday. I tidied the flat like I've never tidied it before. Upheaval of moving tables just where I wanted them to be, going through all boxes and drawers of bits and pieces to streamline things. The problem with such a small flat is always clutter. Clutter, which I'm guilty for often ( Read more... )

I know they want their cats in good homes but honestly sometimes I think they can be too picky.

(pause for distraction as Alice is lying beside the laptop washing my wrist as I type)

Anyway, yes, shelter cats don't care! I remember it being really difficult getting Alice because I didn't want to adopt two. Most shelters have a rule that you must adopt two cats. But it's a pretty stupid rule considering cats are not pack animals. I eventually got around it because we have Willow who was about five months old at the time but they hate each other. Alice hates all cats. She's happier without them. ¬¬ Sorry, that was a rant on how picky shelters can be, lol. If it's a nice (even if slightly small) home or a tiny kennel in a shelter, where is best, really?

Now that i got that out of my system, YAY KITTENS.

What you need is a visit from the Hamster Protection Agency. A small flat with cats & hamsters? Wow! And since I just looked at your last entry where your hamster needed the EV, I got all worried about it like a kid, cause you were worried & I hate to think about ill animals ( ... )

We keep the hamsters in a seperate room and the cats are only allowed in that room under supervision. It works.

That hamster is completely fine now, several months later. I appreciate the concern. I am unable to read things about animals undergoing treatment, or being ill, etc.

Roborovski hamsters live very well in small groups, called colonies. Cage politics aren't very sophisticated. Everyone sleeps in a pile, and they squeak at each other during the night when playfighting. One once received a scratch on the nose, but it wasn't a serious one, and that has been the only incident. I like rodents.

I am thinking of myself I suppose because I only really have one room for myself & Simone. I feel OK about it because she is finally adjusting thanks to my very rigorous affection & longsuffering attentiveness. But for a long time she cried the whole time I was gone every time I left & so on. I do know breeders will often keep a couple dozen cats in an area as small as this room is ( ... )
