Hmmm. Dean and I have very similar phones. Perhaps even the same phone. Actually, what i was commenting to say was that the hall of the mountain king thing is really interesting, because it was used as a motif in M for whenever Peter Lorre's character got up to murderin'. He whistled it. It was notable because it was one of the first times a leitmotif was used in film as shorthand for a character, or at least so I've been told.
It's been used in quite a few things, yeah. I do like the M connection. The lyrics are completely monstery in translation too, so suited well for Purgatory.
I know that a seraphiim is a six-winged angel in Isiah's vision, and that was the first thing my mind went to. But I have also very commonly seen it used simply as another word to refer to an angel. Kinda like we can refer to ourselves as Man, Human or a Person, but the context remains exactly the same.
(EDIT: That's what I get for trying to post a comment on my phone... No substitute for a good computer. Ever. Continuing...)
Personally, with the way it was being used in the conversation, I'm more inclined to believe it was the latter. I mean, it wasn't exactly the right moment to be pointing out his promotion. Even Cas at his most obtuse knows that. :P
I doubt Castiel was pointing out anything, whether it was a promotion or not, but you're probably right about it being used as a generic term for a celestial, rather than a rank.
As a vampire Benny doesn't have a pulse plus Sam knew Dean had gone to a vampire's nest and what with Dean having been turned once, Sam was probably just checking for a pulse of whoever came out with Dean. Actually considering Dean HAD almost been turned once before, Sam trusting his nod that an actual vampire is okay is very trusting of him
( ... )
Fair enough, and an interesting theory. Nice to have a broader base of cultural source material at the very least. As to a tie, we'll see when or if we see.
