Oh wow, I love this. The tiny touches like Douglas almost slipping up with the word "fr" or Martin pulling himself up as he prepares to fend off thugs. This was IC and genuinely loving.

Oh, well done! Honestly, I think in Brenda's situation I'd rather have someone well-meaning fumbling about a bit than someone too slick and self-assured-so it's good he didn't get Douglas in too soon and that Douglas didn't stay too long. Of course, the travel alarm will probably help with the feeling of safety as much as (or more than) the thought of Martin defending her, but it was good of him to offer-and he can surprise people. It was also good of him to call the landlord. It needed to be done. I found Brenda very believable, and the voices of Martin and Douglas right.

Martin deserves a hug, even if it was a rather wet, soppy one.
