Reaction: Supernatural 6.06 and picspam

Oct 30, 2010 15:37

I have a headache and a lack of time, so this might be a little sketchy. Apologies.

Contains profanity and speculation.

Spoiler and Spec Summary

Title: "You Can't Handle the Truth." Well, unless we're going to have a renegade angel die during a prison transfer at Raphael's orders or something, I'm guessing truth spell. FINALLY. It's been six years, everybody's stuffed to the ears with secrets and lies; it's about time to drop a truth spell grenade and blast everything wide open. This should be messy.

Picspam Reaction, with speculation and randomness for Supernatural 6.06 - You Can't Handle the Truth

-Biggerson's! Yay! The cheerful fun happy restaurant where bad things happen!

-So it's wishing for the truth, hunh? Is there another wish-coin-like effect in place?

-Pity, contaminated clam chowder, lack of comparative hotness, sudden confessions of varying murderous nature by old ladies and little girls, Oh, this is funny. After the week I've had, this is hilarious. And making me flash back to High School. :-P

-Do all Biggerson's come equipped with an employee-accessible gun? Because I've worked in food service and deadly ranged weapons would not have been a good idea. Having access to knives was bad enough.

-"'Cause you are a freak." Nice friend. Even though it's under a truth spell and she can't help saying it, I do feel bad for Jane not having an actual friend to call.

-Nice blood spray though. I do believe I'm in the mood for some splattering tonight.

-Calling Bobby for help, very wise, Dean.

-Something about this exchange of looks makes me giggle.

-Teleplay by three people, story by three people. Wow. Looks like a real group brain on this one! [Script-keteer role call! TP: Eric Charmelo, Nicole Snyder, Story: David Reed, Eric Charmelo and Nicole Snyder. So only three people, which is still a lot, but not as many as I thought. I just saw all the names flash past and was momentarily boggled on first watch.]

-Calendar! October 2010! Meaning Kirsten last week was lying about her age to her vampire stalker and was 16 and not 17. *nods* [And she had a standing Tuesday appointment at Harry's House of Horns. Tubas don't need tuning that regularly, if at all... was she taking lessons?]

-[Oh she's her sister. That makes it... both more understandable and so much worse. And sister here being so calm and lying about what she said after she heard her sister kill herself over the phone... yeah. And you thought the Winchester family dynamic was messed up.]

-Director Jan Eliasberg. New to show I believe.

-Sam makes evil evil faces.

-Sam's hair is also suddenly disturbing. Is that a slicked-back Scully cut? O.o Also, tie stripes are unified in direction, but the colors are inversions of each other. Hm.

-"It's not so much I couldn't control myself, I just knew I wouldn't get caught." Yeah, this guy's not going to be a suicide. Yep. Good. Couldn't have happened to a more deserving fellow. Plus, extra added bonus of not inducing additional fear of dentists. You have nothing to fear from dentists as long as you aren't a pedophile. *nods*

-"Worst case scenario: Maybe it's just Sam." Actually, I can think of worse. Not by much though.

-Dean staying behind to do research. Sam's 'failure to process' faces. Bwah!

-Dean, honey, if you are doing research you want to keep your brother from knowing about, close the browser window and clear your cache and history before leaving the laptop. Although, maybe he's trying to passively force a confrontation? Hm.

-Brass instruments and Harry's House of Horns. What do brass instruments have to do with lying?

-"Hey, by the way, how about my horn?" Hee. I've had to do that with NPC's too. The player character doesn't ask the right questions and the NPC's develops a sudden need to info-dump. Silly Dean. Someone stole an old horn, eh? Nifty!

-Gabriel's Horn of Truth. So, wait, Gabriel aka our pal the Trickster had a horn of truth and he wasn't using it to mess with people? He was slacking!

-*waves hi at Castiel* "He's not Lucifer." Nice to know. You could have at least left a voice mail to keep Dean from exploring blind alleys. Communication. None of these boys comunicate.

-The angels don't know what's up with Sam. Castiel looks really pained. This is a very interesting shot angle by the director. [It looks different on the airing because my carrier doesn't letterbox, but it's still interesting. Not often you get a character looking nearly square into the camera.]

-"Incredible things are now required of me." I trust we'll be hearing more about that in future?

-In a few seconds, Castiel checked everywhere in town. Efficient bastard.

-Faaace. And a reversal of the previous shot re: foreground/background etc. Rather nifty.

-Drawer Cam! \o/

-The other corpses are gone, gone. So, zombies, disintegration, or stolen?

-TV Anchorperson is going on about truth a lot. She's either involved or about to be the next victim live on the whatever o'clock news.

-"I'd just like the truth." Knew it had to be coming, still went 'oh crap.'

-*snerk* Never ever change, Dean.

-Oh god, Bobby's a Tori Spelling fan, and has pedicures. [And is quite flexible, going from that second cap.]

-Hey! Cyclone chips! DEAN IS STANDING NEXT TO AN OVERWAITEA OR SAVE-ON-FOODS! *BC glee*

-"Maybe 'cause you're my favorite." Awww. *flail* "Although Sam's a better hunter, lately anyway." Meh. Just a symptom of whatever's wrong with him. *handwaves*

-"What damn fool move are you about to-?" The obvious one, of course. And it's about time.

-Hey she's familiar! Purple girl from Andromeda, Trance something? She's good. [Yep, Laura Bertram]

-Oh dear. Truth from Lisa. "You shoved my kid, Dean." Yeah. No need for a truth spell to bring that up.

-"You two have the most unhealthy tangled up crazy thing I've ever seen." Lisa sees the epic Winchesterian codependency! \o/

-Hm. Lisa has a sister. (And thinks Dean brought Sam back somehow. Ooo.) Interesting random throwaway detail there, wonder if that will be coming up again?

-"Me and Ben can't be in this with you." Yeah. I officially love Lisa. I also love that being under a truth spell changed almost nothing of what she said, just made it a bit harsher. I hope she does come back at some point, but on her own terms, not as just a love-interest.

-The person who started all this killed a cat, her own trusting pet, for spell components. I'm really really glad she's dead. Grr. *has massive issues, moving on*

-"I didn't. I froze." Sam just resisted the truth spell. Ooo. Also DAMMIT!!! Now we won't get the truth out of him!

-Oh Dean.

-Devils Shoestring... hey, that keeps away Hellhounds. Is there a connection?

-Veritas, goddess of truth. Real mythology? [Yep.] Of course it's media woman. I knew she had too many background lines not to be involved. *nods*

-"Anyone who asks aloud for the truth" Or, from the death-by-dentist guy, says they're being honest. The divorce rate in this town must be spiking like crazy.

-The stole a computer tower? Oh, raw footage. Also, not often we see the bribing security instead of just sneaking in, isn't it?

-Research montage and it's night again? *thinks over lighting variations if the last sequence* Yeah, it works.

-"Do I even want to know where you got that?"/"Probably not." Was that an evasion under the influence of the truth spell that might tip Dean off that Sam's immune? Aaaand no.

-Crap you guys, Sam is HUGE! I mean look at the size comparison here! I know people who are 6'5" and they don't have nearly the same capacity to loom.

-Corpse bits! Yarg! Glad I didn't go with pasta for dinner this week! \o/

-Tongues take a hell of a lot of force to pull out, and are way chewier, even just because of the layer of skin. (What? I know things.) She must've cooked the guys' head and neck earlier or something. Or is a deity and deities don't need to worry about gristle. *handwaves*

-"I mean I've seen liars before, but you two? Gold standard." Yep, that's our Winchesters!

-"Yesterday I wanted to kill him in his sleep. I thought he was a monster." Sounds like a 'Dean angstily watches Sam sleeping' missing scene prompt to me. *releases into the wild*

-"Now I think (...) he's just acting like me." Oh Dean.

-"I ain't a father, I'm a killer." Ow, Dean. John managed to be both. Admittedly he had his issues too, but it's not like it flat-out cant be done. Hell, as far as hunter-parents go, there's Ellen and Jo, Grandpa Samuel and Mary... But if this is what you need to believe deep down.... Oh Dean.

-"Mallory to your Mickey." Okay, I have to admit, there have been about five little pop-culture references in this episode and I haven't gotten a single one. I'm feeling a bit like Castiel here.

-Truth god is freaking out. Sam's resisting a deity-level magical effect. Oooo! What is Sam and does Sam even know what he is? "You're not human!" *bounces*

-There's a split second moment in the fight scene between Sam and Veritas that I'm betting will be massively capped and plastered everywhere. [Oh well, here's another. He does do realistic strain and effort very well, doesn't he.]

-Sam's getting choked! What day is it? Must be ThursFRIDAY \o/

-The blade goes through her? The blades they brought weren't that long and Veritas was not that skinny. [Never mind, it was a meat hook. My bad.]

-Yeah, hold the blade on Sam. Neither of you have any idea what he is anymore, and he did let you get turned into a vampire, whether willfully or by being over-ridden by something else, best be ready to defend while you're hashing it out.

-"There's something wrong with me, really wrong. I've known it for a while. I've lied to you, and I let you get turned by that vamp because I knew there was a cure, Dean, and we needed in that nest, and I knew you could handle it." Hehe. Yeah, that went well.

-"Nothing scares me anymore, 'cause I can't feel it." Puppy eyes! Oh crap. Either this is a confused and altered Sam finally telling the truth or a very shrewd 'something-that-looks-like-Sam' saying what it thinks Dean wants to hear, and using the oldest trick in Sam's arsenal to get what he wants from big brother. It's Lucky Charms all over, guys.

-Dean puts down the knife. Logical. Can't kill Sam in case he is telling the truth. Hoping Dean's not buying it wholesale because whether this is Sam or not, I still don't think we've gotten the full truth of the situation. Truth at knifepoint said in desperation is not the most reliable truth. Dean's really credulous when it comes to Sam, even considering the stuff Sam's withheld on him in the past, so taking Sam's at 100% face value here is unwise, even though that's what it might be. He even turns his back on him for a second.

-Ah, yes. Only solution. Can't kill him, but can knock him out, haul him to Bobby's and throw him in the apoc bunker again. Also letting your brother get turned into a vampire, no matter how coldly logical is kind of the ultimate in 'he hit me first.' *nods* [Not capping well at all for me.]

-And then they leave it there with Dean's little 'oh crap, what have I done/what do I do now' eye-joggle. Ha. One guess, Dean: CALL BOBBY. Or I guess Castiel, but best to get Sam into lockdown first.

Okay, so, I know nothing about the next ep. I haven't seen a smidgen of the promo even by accident since the feed I watched didn't air it, and I have no spoilers for the next episode, sooooo speculation time:

The idea that souls are particularly valuable has of course been on the wall since the Moses staff incident, as has Castiel's soul-scanning trick with the pain and the getting elbow deep in a person. Until Bobby got the lien on is soul removed, he was the likeliest candidate for deep probing, but Bobby's deal has been absolved, and none of the major characters have had it done to them yet. So likely a problem with Sam's soul, most likely someone's got it and not the crossroads 'promissory note' way, but in current possession whereas Sam walks around soulless. It's been the most obvious answer for a while now, but it was fun to consider secondary personalities.

Hey, if that's truly the case and it seems almost certain that it is, one of the symptoms of soullessness kind of mimics being a high-functioning sociopath... *ponders Sherlock*

...And now I'm hoping the painkillers kick in soon as I'm off on a short road trip as soon as I wrangle my crap together, so please excuse any lingering typos and play nice y'all!
