I'm a hazard to myself.

It's a good thing that I am in the habit of filling the kettle whenever I boil water. The kettle's whistle doesn't work, but usually I end up over-filling it. It slops out the spout when the water boils and makes a big hissing noise upon it hitting the burner, thereby alerting me that it's boiling and I should shut off the stove. Apparently I didn't over-fill it this time.

-Set kettle on stove to boil for hot chocolate (damn halloween candy commercials).
-(5 minutes) Load and run dishwasher while waiting for kettle.
-(6 minutes) Get sucked into the back half of a rerun of CSI:NY which was playing while I was loading the dishwasher.
-(20 minutes) Drift into trying to figure out my budget for the next two weeks during a commercial break.
-(25 minutes) Wonder why the bathroom fan is kicking in but don't think about it much since the dishwasher's running.
-(28 minutes) Wonder if something is wrong with the dishwasher because it's getting kind of steamy in the apartment.
-(29 minutes) "Oh crap, the kettle!"

So, all is well, no damage, no fire, kettle's fine, I'm fine. Am shifting from hot chocolate to tea though because obviously I need more brain.

arg, blithering, i need better tags, omg, life, disaster kitchen, recipes from the disaster kitchen
