Reaction: Supernatural 4.20 - with speculation

May 02, 2009 03:38

My brain has regenerated enough after Tax Hell Day to actually watch the episode.

(contains nonsense and profanity)

Spoiler and Theorizing Timeline

-Apr 5 Episode schedule. Title. "The Rapture" Oh. Holy. Crap. Um. Wow. If they really go there... yike. Um. Okay, so, from my ancient Sunday School knowledge (and my very devout brother-in-law who keeps trying to get me to read "Left Behind" and considers it non-fiction), the Rapture is the time when the good and pure of the earth are taken up into Heaven, starting with the spirits of the dead, so massive ghost activity, leaving the rest on earth to redeem themselves and earn a place in heaven or continue damning themselves as Hell runs roughshod over the earth. I grew up going to Sunday School, and as a kid, the Rapture scared the shit out of me. Um. Wow. I may need therapy after this one. o.O

....Aaaand because of that spoiler, I'm not going to even try watching the episode after Tax Hell Day. I'm going to sleep tonight, stay the hell away from the entire internet, and watch it tomorrow night, I hope. I think this one will need a lively brain to handle. Much as I really want to watch it.

*25 hours later* Right. Still have no brain, but I'm going to go seriously mental if I don't watch this. All systems go!

Incidentally, thank you very very much to all of you who e-mailed/PM'd me to warn me about the "Soon"!! You all rock! \o/

Reaction and Speculation for Supernatural 4.19 - "The Rapture"

Holy crap. Not what I was vaguely expecting, but... WOW. HOLY FRIGGING CRAP!!! O.O

Um. Right. Sense. Attempting to make some, considering I was so tired that I thought the tail end of 4.19 was taking the place of the "Then" and wondering what the implications of that was.

In other words, coherence content: minimal. Woo!

-MY JOYTV FEED IS BAAAAACK! Hello letter-boxing! Hello, tolerable-sized station bug! Goodbye flying green CW crap! Yay!

-*hides from the actual "Then" on the first watch-through* [*nods at the wisdom of hiding from the "Then" on the second watch-through, but waves gleefully at Chuck*]

-Fishing! Dean! Bwah! Okay, as silly as this is, I'm betting Dean dreaming about fishing is directly attributable to that photo from last week. And I bet it wouldn't stay calm and placid for long. The amount of crap the boy has running around processing in his head for anxieties and stuff? Something was gonna pop out of that lake and try to eat him. Hm. I wonder if the lake is dream-metaphor for Sam. All Dean's getting from Sam right now is walls and surfaces and Sam's not actually telling him much of anything about what's going on. So Dean fishing is Dean figuring if he is patient and uses the right bait, he can get some kind of insight into what's going on beneath Sam's surface. In which case something is definitely going to pop out of the lake and try to eat him. *nods*

-Hee! Unexpected Castiel FTW! \o/

-Oooo... who's eavesdropping on the inside of Dean's head?

-Ooo. The water shifted colour or something when Castiel left. Have to see what happened there on second watch. [Water went from golden-tone to dark like the sun went behind a cloud. That was funky. I thought for a second there might have been some big thing coming up from the deeps but not surfacing, but no.]

-Hey, upside-down Dean wake-up! That's a direct visual parallel to the first season Sam upside-down wake-up thing! Need more brain to consider the implications.

-Um. Not to be paranoid inordinately suspicious, Dean, but don't you think maybe Castiel was including Sam in the list of 'someones' who might be listening? [Actually, that's kind of reassuring. Dean doesn't think that about Sam, or he would not have automatically included him in the meet. *gets warm fuzzy, yet still paranoid, glow*]

-Nifty visual geometric things going on at the warehouse.

-"Looks like a bomb went off." Um. Oh crap! Pleasepleaseplease, no burned-in wings!!! Don't kill Castiel!! O.O

-Anna's sigil thingy, hunh? Wonder if Anna drew it. And if she didn't get pushed back and out by it, what that means about her... Hm. Anna versus Castiel maybe? And where does Zachariah fit in? [I want missing scenes!] In the meantime, hee! Cornfield!

-OMG CASTIEEEEEEEL!!! Wow. I was half expecting to see him somewhere in the wreckage but seeing him sprawled out and unconscious kicked me square in the adrenals. That was unexpected.

-Oh wow. He's the vessel! Jimmy! I like Jimmy! He seems so freaked and lost right there.

-Holy crap, Castiel's gone?? *plots bloody vengeance against Anna*

-When Castiel gets back, someone better nag him about care and maintenance of his host. Like feeding the poor guy something once in a while. Jimmy's appetite is daunting Dean there.

-Jimmy Novak, Pontiac, Illinois. Good to know. [Also, Jimmy Novak DJ. Who has a show called 4:20 Hit of the Day. ...is that a really tortured reference back to the episode number? If so, I'm blaming Edlund for it.]

-My god, I totally love Misha Collins. I can't even put it into words. I just plain can't. I have no brain. This is fantastic. I love Jimmy! I love that we're getting canon backstory for Castiel's host and I just love every little bit of all of this! *snuggles down into the backstory*

-Oh crap. I bet Lillith is in his kid.

-I agree with Sam on this discussion of what to do with Jimmy. He's a walking target and sending him home to suburbia undefended would not be a good thing at all. The demons and/or moles in the Angel network certainly don't know what the host might or might not remember. Hanging on to him as a lead, though, not so much in agreement there. Highly impractical.

-"Remember when our job was helping people." Ow. True, but ow. And oh Dean.

-*is suffused with wordless glee over the hotel room discussion between Dean, Sam and Jimmy*

-Written by Jeffery Carver, directed by Charles Beeson.

-Hee! Sleep hair. *giggles*

-Sam? Don't leave Sam. You're on watch. No no no, don't- Sam, you're a moron.

-Correction. Sam, you're an addict. Ick. I'm surprised that that blood hasn't congealed, but maybe essence of demon is an anti-clotting agent. It would explain how the sludge is still pumping around through Ruby's dead host.

-I love how Dean's all chortle-y in the morning brushing his teeth. Hey, second ep in a row for dental hygiene!

-Hee! Bus! I don't know why, but the bus makes me giggle. It looks exactly like the bus I used to ride to get home from college. Actually, considering this is probably a Vancouver greyhound or Maverick Coach, it's probably the same.

-Hand into boiling water. Wow. Random Bladerunner shout-out?? Also, that as a test of faith? Castiel's a bit of an ass. Better than getting Jimmy to do nasty things to himself with the knife though, I guess. I love the awe and wonder he has, it suits so well and just eeee!

-HA!! Unexpected Anna! Moving vehicles and surprise visits by angels do not mix. Also what the hell did you do to Castiel, Anna??!? *glowers menacingly* I know nothing, but I trust Anna about as far as I could throw her.

-"You look terrific!" Considering the last Dean saw of Anna was her about to explode in a ball of light, seeing her whole, mobile and alive would be pretty terrific. Kind of disturbed that she takes it as flirting or something, and makes me think even more that she's not on the 'up' side of things.

-Heh. Listening to the phrasing and lines from Anna here with a paranoid skeptical mindset... She is so very totally not on their side. Or Castiel's side. I think I was right about her from "Head of a Pin." Betting she's the mole, or the brains behind the mole. She's totally pumping them for info on what Castiel might have said, and whether Jimmy knows anything.

-SNOW!!! Yay for use of Vancouver's weather! \o/

-"Take the pills." I love how they're going through all the real-world consequences of someone claiming an angel is telling them to do things. Heartbreaking as it is.

-"Jimmy, you sell ad-time for AM radio" HEEE! [And once again, Jimmy Novak. No idea why he's getting a massive shout-out, but good for him]

-O.O IN HIS BLOOD????? WT serious F??? Oh. He could hear and see Castiel's true form. Ohhhh. Oh great. [...and that explains why that bit was in the Then.]

-Jimmy talking to Castiel on his front walk. You gotta wonder what his neighbors thought, or maybe he had a habit of randomly talking to Castiel out loud and they're used to it and just tune it out. Actually, it'd sound a bit like someone talking on a cell phone, only hearing one side of a conversation, or just leaving a message when Castiel wasn't answering.

-The big glowy light'll be tough to ignore... unless it's a 'angel-sighted only' spectacle.

-Holy crap, I love Misha Collins.

-"I am not your father." Ouch. Way to scar a kid for life. Castiel, dude, we need to work on your people skills.

-Homecoming, soft sad music... Ohhhh this is not going to go well.

-Hand on the railing... The kid's totally Lillith. [Heh. Man was I wrong.]

-"Heven, hell, none of that matters. The only thing that's important to me is you and Claire." Aw, family (Why hello there, major theme of the series! How ya doing?) Ohhh. This is so going to hurt when Lilith jumps out, or demons invade or anything.

-Sam, Sam, Sam. Sigh.

-Wow, those sandwiches are huge. *commences flailing all over the dinner scene*

-Ding dong. Oh crap, here we go.

-Black eyes! HA! HAHAHAHAHA! GO JIMMY!!! There is NO WAY that this can be spun so that it doesn't look bad, but good for you for losing your shit in a pro-active way. Even if no one will ever believe you aren't psychotic. *pats*

-Yay salt! HEEEE!!!

-Combat. Yep, Sam's a quart low.

-Ooo. Wife just got possessed off camera there, I bet. That was way too reminiscent of Grandpa Campbell.

-"Don't sugar-coat it Sam." Well, it is the truth, really. Better that then 'Everything will be fine in a week, two weeks, another month... etc.' Sometimes hope is better crushed.

-*flails at the Novak family scene* [Even though I know what's coming *flails again*]

-Yep, she's possessed. Ow. This kid's going to need a considerable amount of therapy if she survives.

-... you know, I'm okay with Castiel riding with the guys. Or Jimmy. Either one. There's a lot of characters I would not want joining the boys on the road, even though I love them to bits, but him I would not mind. He fits, in a spiky, Winchestery sort of way.

-"Stunt Demon #3" HEE! Interesting that Dean is not so concerned that Sam has demon-killing psychic powers and where they came from, but more concerned that Sam nearly keeled over trying to do something he used to do easily. Even if that's killing demons with the power of his mind.

-"We'll work our way through the catwalks." Gee, thanks show, I've just been earwormed by Right Said Fred.

-Oh. Oh man. This whole thing with Jimmy shouting and raging at Castiel in absentia? Oh wow. Awesome. Not very helpful in the stealth department, but still awesome. Although it'd make a hell of a distraction for whatever the boys are doing.

-...which is apparently not much. Hunh. [Unless they were setting up for... but how? Needs more brain.]

-I like the person playing Amelia as a demon. Actually I liked her playing straight too. She can come back. Except for that whole demonic death/being used as bait thing. *nods*

-Eeek! Not Jimmy!

-Angel! Yay! [Hm... you know, the more I watch this scene, the more I think the boys plan was part of this. A young girl is being menaced by a demon and they really aren't struggling that much...]

-Sam... What are you doing- Oh crap, Sam!! Oh. Ooops. Um. Way to out yourself, dude. Holy flaming fudge-puddles! Although good to know any old demon blood will do. Sam is one seriously effed-up puppy. O.o

-Dean flinches when Sam raises his hand. Oh. OW.

-Oh, whew, there's Amelia! I thought it was Jimmy's possessed wife Sam had just snacked on there. That's marginally better. I guess.

-Whoa. I can't even process how awesome the scene with Jimmy slowly dying, Castiel telling him to go to his rest and Jimmy begging and the, just the... I can't even. Just WOW. Misha Collins kicks ass. *flails*

-Also, there may not be enough therapy in the world to help Claire. Just saying.

-Ooo, nice and very subtle little bit of the last trace of the cut on Jimmy's face healing as Castiel looks back at Amelia and Claire. Also, he really does have heavenly dry cleaning, because I don't see any blood on that shirt,

-Oh. Crap. Castiel got... um. Reset. An attitude adjustment. What the hell? Who exactly pulled him back upstairs and what did they do?? Or, ooo. Or is he putting up a facade, because he knows he's being observed more closely by someone. Gnh! I need more braaaaain!!!!

-Heh.

-[Arg! No! JoyTV has dancing baloney now too. With hummingbirds. Hey, sandrinnad can I borrow your slotted spoon and spatula?]

-Dean doesn't care? No, no, no. Something's up. [Heh, maybe he's meaning he's done being Sam's enabler? We'll see how that goes.]

-Hee! "What's going on?"/"The Apocalypse, genius." Heeeeee! Bobby's been clearing out the safe room looks like...

-OMG! It's not the apocalypse, it's a frigging intervention! BWAH!! They'll lock Sam up in the safe room while he detoxes from the demon blood! Makes total real-world logical sense, and while it's going to suck to be Sam for a while, suffering the demonic DT's (ooo, hallucinations?) no doubt, it's something they're doing to save him, not punish him! YAY!!! Except it'll totally not turn out like they expect it too, also yay! AND IT'S ALL BEING DONE GENERALLY TO TRY TO HELP SAM! \o/ I love this show! [And I want to hear Dean's phone call to Bobby!]

Again, did not see the 'Soon' (Though it went on forever and ever it seemed, I had it on mute and was keeping track of the station bug between my fingers to see when commercials took over) and thank you for the head's up!

Must sleep now, passing out at keyboard, work tomorrow (not early, yay), 13th day in a row, will fix mistakes and catch up with you all (skip=what??) later.
