Reaction: Playthings (2.11)

Jan 19, 2007 00:43

I will probably change my mind later, as time goes on but... er... this reaction may be a little bit frothing in spots, and not terribly positive. I'm blaming sleep-deprivation and being fool enough to get my hopes way, way up about something today.

Kripke's in ur forumz, readin ur postz. )

Really... Cool. I already liked her, but that's cool.

Why don't Sam or Dean just bleed on the symbol thingies?

Don't have the tape on hand at this second, but I'm pretty sure the boys said the point of the marked vases was to hold bloodweed. Protective herbology, not bloodletting.

Ah, see, that's another reason I need to watch the episode again when I've had some sleep. All I heard was blood. :-)

After a second viewing, you know what creeped me out the most about the episode?

Okay, two siblings. An older blond, a younger brunette. The older blond can't let go of her family, becomes a psycho killer, twisting people's necks around and such, and tries to force her family to stay with her forever, even if it means they have to die. And at the end, the younger sibling sacrifices herself to give her psycho sibling what she wants--her sister, stuck with her, literally forever.

Were they meaning to draw parallels between John's sacrifice and Rose's?--they both gave up any chance at a "normal" afterlife to save their children/grandchildren. Maybe they were, maybe they weren't--but the parallel I saw was a very twisted take on the Dean/Sam relationship. And I didn't like it.

I did like the episode as a whole, but...yeesh. What were they saying with this one? I'm not sure I get it.

I've seen a lot of posts in various places drawing parallels between the ghost-girls and Sam and Dean... I didn't get any of that from the episode, but I've only seen it once while sleep-deprived. I'll watch for that the next time I watch.

I didn't see it the first time I watched, just on the second viewing. I just hope all of us who thought that are totally wrong and that's not what they were trying to do. Our boys are fucked up enough already!

one thing i thought that could have been a sam and dean point was that the two sisters stayed together after death, but they were okay with that. i dunno, thats what i saw it as. That Sam and Dean could die together someday and they'd be okay, as long as they had each other around to keep each other company.

Hm. Maybe. Will have to re-watch with that in mind.
