What are you supposed to do when you get the distinct impression that someone you care about is disappointed with you or angry, but when you ask what's wrong, the answer is always "nothing

With the caveat that I was raised in a household with an alcoholic, so I don't put up with emotionally manipulative bullshit from anyone... I'd take it at face value, that nothing's wrong. If something IS wrong, then eventually they'll get more frustrated and mad that you're not giving their passive-aggressive hissy fit the attention it deserves, and come out and say something out loud. You can then point out that you ASKED what was wrong, and it's not your problem that they didn't simply tell you.
Ugh. Passive-aggressive shit like this always annoys me. I always get frustrated and explode at them about how I'm at least trying to make things right and how they just want to hold a grudge. Possibly I throw ultimatums in there.
(I had an issue with a friend in high-school that gave me a no-tolerance for stuff like that, though.)
My least favorite thing is when you can't get in contact with someone all the normal ways-so you can't tell if they're mad and ignoring you, or if they ran out of minutes on their phone and can't get to the internet. A "friend" of mine is doing this to me now, and I am all, "I WAS OUT OF TOWN FOR 10 DAYS. I CAN'T POSSIBLY HAVE DONE ANYTHING TO UPSET YOU BECAUSE I WASN'T HERE, YOU TWAT."
It's thankfully been sorted out and wasn't like that at all, but... yeah. That's annoying as all fuck. It's like, "Either tell me what the hell is bothering you or shut the fuck up!"
Uh, what? That's ridiculous. You weren't there to be obnoxious. What could you have done? Whaaaat?
Ugh, things like that annoy me so much. When people just say that nothing's the matter when it clearly are. But well, I'm such a person that doesn't want to interfere with other people's bushiness so I usually just let it be. Not a great advice really ^^' I hope things fixes themselves for you!
