So, the downstairs heat is out. Thankfully, the upstairs heater is working, but in the middle of this blizzard, that's not as big a comfort as if the reverse was true. Jody and the kids are at her moms, snowed in like I am here. Hopefully, the repairman makes it out. I made the call to stay behind in case they could make it out, because someone ( Read more... )

To be fair, you are getting credit for the call to your labor. There are two ways to charge:

1) You have a diagnostic charge and a repair charge. The cost of the diagnostic is figured into the repair. So the 145 diagnostic plus the 600 motor replacement equals the 745 total cost of repair. You write a check for 745.

2) You have a diagnostic fee that's waived with the repair. In this case the 145 is taken off the 745 motor repair cost, so you only pay 600 for the motor repair because you've paid 145 for the diagnostic. You write a check for 745.

Everybody loves Guy #2 because hey, he's cutting you a deal. In reality Guy #1 is being up front about all his charges.
