I was out of the fandom at the time the Great Migration (or whatever) happened, so I feel like I missed all the background on this. Which is probably a good thing!

They are all LJ converts, I think. I know! It's a whole third (fourth?) wave of fandom. These folks mostly didn't start watching until the show was over!
