Douglas/Martin vs. professional relationship

Douglas and Martin want each other, and they both know. But Martin refuses because he thinks it will disrupt their working relationship and, more importantly, that Douglas will use it to tease him and play power games and threaten his position as Supreme Commander. Unfortunately, Douglas can't prove that he won't unless he's given the chance to show it.
Would love to see them start a relationship and work through the awkward power dynamics and (Martin's) insecurities associated with their job.
"I don't think I read the signals wrong, Martin." It's a statement, not a question; it's quietly spoken and reenforced by the way Douglas' gaze slides down Martin's body from his dilated eyes, past his parted mouth and heaving chest down to the obvious bulge in his jeans
( ... )
Anything else Douglas was about to say stalled as Martin pushed him backwards and for a second Douglas thought his suggestion had been met with anger. At least until his own back hit the opposite wall and he suddenly had a whole lot of eager captain pressed against him
( ... )
When Douglas awoke the following morning Martin was tucked up against his side, head cushioned on Douglas' shoulder and snoring lightly. He ran his fingers across the forearm that was slung across his chest and smiled as Martin snuggled closer in his sleep. It was a Sunday morning and there was nothing to get up for and thankfully no flying that day, nothing to rush for
( ... )
It had been a little odd eating brunch when they eventually got around to making it and there had been a moment of silence once the plates were finished
( ... )
"You know you mentioned you'd been tested..." Martin started as nonchalantly as possible as they watched 'Million Pound Drop' side by side on the sofa on a Saturday evening

Hope this is what you wanted, and just wanted to explain the odd last line. Basically, I got all anal-retentive and wanted to make it a missing scene from St. Petersberg. :-/

Aaaw, it's beautiful and tender and sweet. I like how Douglas uses one night stands as a relationship loophole. You had some great descriptions in there too, and just from a quick skim for examples: "by the time realisation had hit him his reaction had been more of a 'oh, of course,' rather than an 'oh, my god.'" and "he suddenly had a whole lot of eager captain pressed against him." Thank you! - OP

I love how Douglas tricked Martin in such an obvious way... so adorable and brilliant! ♥
