Maybe Lyra is a little too much like parts of you for you to like her?

As for the modest thing, I experimented and could only get modest to sod off and turn into proud if I chose the strongly agree/disagree options for the relevant questions. The mere agree/disagree answers still ended up with modest.

Interesting...you're right, Lyra was a really annoying kid. But I still liked her for that especially since it's such an unusual portrayal of a young girl in literature especially as a protagonist. I think she had to have that personality to pursue those experiences, it's part of her inquisitiveness and she kind of needed to be stubborn and pushy.
I don't know, maybe I identified with her cause I was kind of an obnoxious kid.

I found Lyra extremely annoying, although I'm lukewarm on the series as a whole.

Yes, i entirely agree -- Lyra was annoying, and i thought the premise of The Golden Compass was interesting enough but i couldn't see why everyone thought it was such a big deal. I only got thru' book one because i couldn't work up enough interest to go on. I couldn't even work up enough rage to want to see if it all turned out horribly, which is occasionally how i manage to get thru' books.

I forced myself through two books and realized I didn't give a shit about any of the people in them, so never read the third.
