HOLY FUCKING SHIT, DUDES.

ROBIN OF SHERWOOD IS BEING RELEASED ON DVD IN THE US.

Preorder on Amazon. It appears to be the first two "seasons," so it's only the 11 episodes with Michael Praed as Robin, but it's still cheaper than trying to buy the UK version on the current exchange rate. It also has over nine hours of special features, which ( Read more... )

Let's all moan the theme tune together!

For a moment I thought you meant the recent pc abomination that has been shown on telly over here and couldn't understand the excitement.

Chris and I have kept the Kevin Costner film version purely for the camp joy that is Alan Rickman as the sheriff of Nottingham - who is in a completely different (rather more fun) film than everyone else.

I watched a few episodes of the new one on YouTube and found myself DEAD BORED. Given what a Robin Hood freak I am, it's really saying something to produce a version of the story that just bores me. The Little John is pretty good, but I really don't like their Robin (no beards for Robin! unless he is IN DISGUISE!) and their terrorism allegories are clumsy and laughable.

I think we've discussed Prince of Thieves before--I do love Rickman's performance. Speaking of, the sherriff in the new BBC series clearly wishes he was Rickman so badly he could spit, but he is not even close.

Anyway. Rooooooooooooooooooooobin! Roooooooooooooobin! THE HOODED MAN! Duh DOO!

Whee. :D

I once met Michael Praed in a pub. My friend really embarrassed me by telling him that I thought he looked wonderful in boxer shorts (I had seen him in his underwear in a play a few nights previous). I was mortified, but he seemed quite flattered :)

Oh my god. I'm sure he does look wonderful in boxer shorts. I'm glad it wasn't me, though, because I would have been reduced to incoherent squeaking, which would have led only to further embarrassment.

God, I loved him as Robin. One of my earliest memories is of being six years old and ill, but demanding to be allowed to stay up to watch Robin of Sherwood on Showtime, and then it was the episode where he DIES. I was inconsolable.

Good for you! I would smugly point out that it's been out on DVD over here for years, but then you would have to point out the dearth of Due South DVDs that we discussed a year or more ago.

Incidentally, that has now been rectified and we have the first two years worth on DVD. We're about 4 episodes in and it's a lovely reminder of quite why we liked the show so much.

Yeah, and for years I've been considering testing the "region 0" claims of some versions of the full series box set, but it's something crazy like $150 on the exchange so I never did. I just hope they release the second part of RoS in a timely fashion here, as I still want it even if Jason Connery is no Michael Praed.

And hooray for Due South! Have you seen Slings and Arrows, the new Canadian series (each season is only six eps, but there are three so far) in which Paul Gross is a former actor who suffered a psychotic break during a performance of Hamlet returned to his old company to take the place of the deceased artistic director, who has started talking to him? It's like he's been typecast as a guy who talks to dead guys, but it's VERY good.

Nope, not heard of that. Sounds good: I'll keep an eye open!
