That sounds like an awesome book. I may have to acquire a copy.

Just because I've packed my books, I decided to follow your instructions. The packing means that the "nearest" book happened to be in the other room, and it's a cookbook, because I'm just starting to pack the kitchen:

"Add the tomatoes and stir in the sugar, salt, paprika, and cayenne or chili powder. Return the chicken pieces to the pan and simmer for about 30 minutes, or until tender, adding a little water if it becomes too dry. Serve with rice."

Claudia Roden, The Book of Jewish Food

It's the end of a recipe for Hungarian Chicken Paprikash. Yummy. I've made it.

When I see this meme, I always cast about for the nearest book, just for fun. This time I realized that it was Sartre's /No Exit/, sitting on my lap, and I was like, "Well, damn. Does that make me some kind of intellectual?" (For full effect, imagine that delivered in a bad Texas accent.)

From that little excerpt, I want to read the book. I'm a little worried about myself for using this meme as a book finding process. Not a lot worried, mind you, just a little.

Last time I did it, the nearest book was 1602, which doesn't have any page numbers, and on page 123 of which (if I counted correctly) it was rather tricky to determine which was the third sentence. I don't think graphic novels are designed for this.

OK. Punctuation verbatim.

"I saw the man - but he was dead.!!! He was not cold yet. he had died of heart failure. Mrs. and Mr. Frikell had dressed up especially to greet me, but Death forestalled my visit..."

Ruth Brandon, The Life and Death of Harry Houdini (quoting from a letter of Houdini's). Most of my books are still packed from the move.
