Today at the gym, there was some bimbo in the weight room TALKING ON HER CELL PHONE WHILE USING THE WEIGHT MACHINES.

She went through at least two machines yapping on her phone. Words fail me, dude.

Are you kidding? That's par for the course at UT. One of the many reasons I can't deal with the campus gym.

I don't know, I had my headphones in. She LOOKED very perky and animated about it, though.

Well I really suspect some people use them to change the social situation between them and the outside world. They call up a friend, who they don't have to interact with in person to avoid having to interact with people at the gym. I mean they can't log onto LJ at the gym of course! Maybe she doesn't want to get hit on or something. I have sometimes gotten the impression I've walked past people who intentionally make/fake a call to avoid some kind of awkward glance situation. I'm sure it has to be popular in downtown St. Louis if you don't want to get hit up for money. I think it'd be neat to somehow know the cellphone number of someone near you that doesn't know who you are, and say any number of things. Anyways, I don't have one of these gadgets but I think I will soon.

No, I think it was the quads machine. One of the leg ones, anyway. And then she switched to the abductors.
