So last night I went outside at about 1:15, when I reached prelim studying saturation, to put some junk out on the curb for trash pick-up that I'd forgotten about earlier. Poor Yoko... she's a brilliant woman. And they weren't the most compatible persons if that alone did break them (then again, it's an opinion, but still...)...

I hope now you'll get a much calmer home...

What do prelims involve in your program?

We have to take two, one from the A list (really big subfields of sociology) and one from the B list (slightly smaller subfields). It's basically an 8-hour essay test for which you can bring in no materials but on which you're expected to provide an assload of citations. I'm taking my B list prelim on August 2 (ethnomethodology & conversation analysis).
