Thesis edits continue--I did all the little rewrites suggested by my second committee member yesterday and today, but she also had an ASSLOAD of citations she wanted me to add, so I searched high and low for them yesterday and then emailed her about the ones that continued to elude me. No response yet; I'm starting to worry she might be out of ( Read more... )

> It was kind of like how [info]travspence reacts when I mention that I was 8 years old when Flood came out.

Better than my reaction would be, I bet: "What's Flood?"

It's a They Might Be Giants album. It features "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)."

Hey, I read that Deerskin book when I was in HS. Want historical proof? My first internet screenname was Lissar1220!

Boo! I was 7 when Star Wars came out.

Cabell, I appreciate the tedium that is seeking out and incorporating new cites. I'm sorry to hear Sunshine is disappointing; I've been considering reading it for awhile.

I also admit that I don't much of the music you listen to, but I was pleased to see Morphine today. I like them.

It's not really disappointing; it's just very different from early McKinley. I still like it.

I love Morphine. And what is your missing verb? Do you not LIKE my music or not KNOW it, generally? :p

I still look forward to your thoughts on Sunshine after you finish it and maybe after a reread, too, if you often reread books. I read it when it first came out in hardback and really enjoyed it, though I did miss the writing style with which I was most familiar (The Hero and the Crown was a staple of my childhood), but when I reread it, some of her ideas on vampires started to make less sense and I noticed how rough and long-winded the style was. (Which is rich coming from me, I know, but still.)

I want to watch Robin of Sherwood right now and I can't. You're an evil influence.

Well, I finished it last night and I am rather disappointed now. I felt like the ending didn't offer much beyond beating the bad guy, and I was more interested in a few answers to all the questions that had been raised up to that point. It doesn't so much feel like a sequel set-up as just UNFINISHED to me. I do like the idea of vampires being able to exert some control over their development by the choices they make, but that never got fully developed. And I found that the harried style of it made me skim a lot--even more than I do usually; it's a problem of mine when I just really, really want to know WHAT HAPPENS NEXT.

Man, I am loving the Robin of Sherwood. Did you watch it when you were younger? If I can get access to a DVD burner, I might be able to make copies...

Those were many of the problems I had, too. You can tell when it is being presented as a sequel set-up (though that's still annoying in its own right), but this one did feel as if she'd rushed the ending (and other parts of the story) and just didn't include everything it needed to make sense.

I wanted more development in the vampires, I wanted more world building, I wanted answers to all the questions, not more questions. It wasn't intriguing, it went to the point of annoying, and though I reread books a lot, I've not reread it since the second time, when I bought it in paperback. How frustrating.

I don't think I have ever seen it, though I might have seen bits of episodes when I was younger. I would love copies, if you are ever able.

Hey, could you email me your address. I can't find the new one and I have some little things for you, nothing much, but I've been collecting them for your (now horribly late) Christmas and (comparitively slightly late) birthday box.
