Where our heroine flares her nostrils most unattractively...

So, I was on imdb.com just before, looking at the message board/commentary on Real Women Have Curves (which I watched on DVD the other day, and really enjoyed)...and I found this.

And this.

And thisI know, I know. This is the internet. People are wankers. And, yeah, I've encountered fat phobics for pretty much the entire 26 years I've been on ( Read more... )

What little shits.

And I could go into a whole rant about the fallacy involved in the use of the term 'lazy'... 'Lazy' means not doing the work that is rightfully yours. 'Lazy' means expecting a greater return than has been earned by your efforts. 'Lazy' means demanding things from other people that is incommensurate with your rights or your commitments.

'Lazy' does NOT mean living a lifestyle in a certain way that has no impact on other people. What's with the fat-phobia?

I couldn't access those links but it's probably better that way because I just would have upset myself.

Perhaps this blog will be an antidote to feeling fucked off? (I love the term fucked off, by the way. I will have to gank it sometime soon ;)

I even sent it to my mother. I am trying to get her on the body acceptance bandwagon, also so that she stops being the food police with me (another reason it's better I'm not moving back home.)

Have you heard of the new show on ABCFamily called HUGE, about teenagers at fat camp? It was created by one of the original creators of My So-Called Life. I just saw the first two episodes, and I think it's quite revolutionary television. I'm planning to post about it soon.

Yeah, those comments were extremely upsetting. Especially seeing as I feel like I'm in a non-stop battle against my body and my self-image, and I ended up bawling my eyes out practically all of yesterday day afternoon I was feeling so rubbish. :( However...there were a lot of people on the board who kept going on about how gorgeous and sexy America Ferrera was in that movie...so, that's something.

Thanks so much for the blog- will have a proper look later! And, no, I haven't heard about that programme- not sure if it's come to NZ. We also don't watch much TV, as the reception in our flat is shite, so we usually don't bother!

To be honest, I was concerned that you were thinking of moving home, knowing your mother's anxiety about food. Living with my Dad as an adult eroded so much of my self-esteem, as he'd constantly hassle me about my weight and what I was eating. I know how much you love your Mum, and she honestly sounds great- but I think it'll be so much better for your self-esteem and mental health for you to live on your own. :
