I have the same problem with consistency when I make carrot soup. The best luck I've had so far has been with blending the bejaysus out of it once it's cooked (while still hot) and adding extra (hot) liquid as needed at that point. I still haven't managed one I'm completely happy with, though. Alas!
Sometimes I wonder if using a recipe instead of winging it might help me out here. Anything is possible, they say!
I keep thinking if only I had a ricer or a chinoise or something, I could make this better. But I'm not sure I should give in to my urge to purchase more kitchen gadgetry.
I'm jealous, our coop here in Tucson has very uninteresting food. dried beans and peppers and squash. bah. I want leafy greens, fruit... Bad climate for that unfortunately.
We do tend to get squash, but more in summer/early fall. I would like more peppers, that would be fun.
We are talking about joining a grain CSA, and I think the woman who runs it grows some beans, which might be nice.
But yes, our climate is good for leafy greens, which is very happy for me. I miss them on weeks we don't get any. I could eat kale and chard and spinach all the time.
We pay extra ($6 I think) to have ours delivered to the house. But no, we don't choose. It's whatever is harvested at the farm. You can make some requests though, like "don't ever send nuts" or whatever. But it is not at all like shopping. Did you have organic express? I believe planet organics is a similar service.
