Lay takes an object. I try to remember that you LAY an egg but you LIE down. The confusing part comes in when you use the past tense of LIE which is LAY. :D
'I am going to lay on the couch.' makes me picture someone laying an egg on the couch. ;-)

Laying an egg - great idea. I will remember that. I don't ever want to lay on egg on the couch. ;D
