Someone posted this to the English Wikipedia mailing list today. It's the start of an argument on the discussion page for Elision:
Oh, I deliberately used my version of showing speech because I dispute the IPA's. I deny the existence of the schwa, I object to r/R sounds as being difthongs, I refute its status of r and R as consonants but as vowels ( Read more... )

And yes, cranks are extremely diverse. It's what makes them so interesting ;)

I can't claim to understand the bit about lone and blended glyphs; it was the schwa-denial that cracked me up.

::snerk:: I kept waiting for this person (is it just me, or did you assume it was a guy?) to start writing in all caps about how the schwas are chasing them through the streets or something. Heh.

The response from a linguist on Talk:Elision suggests that the parts we're failing to understand do not, in fact, make what we puny Earthlings know as "sense", at least as stated.

(Am I out of language-related icons? I guess so. But headdesk!Baltar is appropriate here too.)
