Today, I have been mostly at the Uni. I am now much wiser about the intricacies of the CAN bus that I was this morning. I might even, just maybe, give the PIC chip a second chance -- at least, the DS-PIC chips

Reconsider the PIC? Who are you, and what have you done with John?

I know, I know... but when the labs are full of PIC programming gadgets and the PCs all have the toolset installed on them, and there's a ready-made PCB design for the thing I need to build, it would just be silly to stick with the (far superior) AVR.
