[Chase is just keeping his date. Assuming she'll be expecting him, he nontheless bypasses the garage doors to knock at the entrance to the living quarters of the warehouse. He's not here just for the cars, at all.]

It was lodged?

[He's just frowning now, although reassured in some way. Not enough to keep him from folding his arms and biting down on his lip as he watches her, not even suggesting they could go somewhere more private than this.]

I should have picked your name up on the theatre rota. Who shot at you?

Yes.

[She opens her shirt, showing the bandage. It isn't very big, but she'll let him take it off himself]

Some woman. It was during that curse day. Where everyone was shooting over the mildest things.

[The keys go back on the table, and he's gentle this time as he touches her shoulder, carefully unpeeling the tape from the top.]

There have been a few hairy ones lately. It's not normally this frenetic.

I remember worse. I remember elaborate traps.

[The wound is clean and the stitches are neat. It is, in fact, healing]

[Look, he'd fussed before it transpired she'd seen a doctor already. Still, he presses lightly around the seam.]

They've cropped up while I've been here, too. Any problems with the range of movement in this arm? Just uncomfortable?

[Her hand opens and closes]

Discomfort, mostly. Rudy told me that physical therapy would help, once it heals completely.

Rudy Cooper? [He glances up, one eyebrow lifting.] You're working your way through the hospital. Don't tell him I checked his work.

[Not that it tends to be Doctor Cooper's specialty, but on the busy days people get roped in where they can be. chase tapes back up, smoothing with the pad of his thumb. Ever so gentle. And there is a point where he's a little too aware that they're standing in the middle of a room with her shirt half off.]

It missed anything major, but you've got a lot of little nerve endings right there. Nick the wrong one and nothing makes it better. [And he steps back, sheepish.] Sorry.

[She smiles]

I love secrets. I won't tell.

[And her head tilts just a little]

Why are you sorry?

For assuming you might not have had it seen to properly. of course you would.

[She carefully buttons her shirt back up; her fingers move easily]

I'll simply assume that you know a great deal of people who would not see to it properly. Is that the case?

Here? [He averts his eyes deliberately, scooping the keys back up.] One or two.

[She raises her eyebrows]

Don't you like my breasts? Or are you trying to be gentlemanly?

[Topics change like the wind.]

[Perhaps the wind chase momentarily seems to be choking on, though he's laughing as he looks back up.]

Your breasts are fine. The latter.

[She seems to consider this as she puts her cardigan and coat back on, layering her scarf carefully over it]

You don't have to be. I won't be offended.

[a very light, amused shake to his head.]

If I'm going to check a woman out, I don't like to do it under false pretenses.
