Some days I wish I could be certain that what I believe is right is actually right.

But I also know that it doesn't matter, I shall be fighting for it anyway.

I see it happening differently. They will be happy slaves; probably with happiness dependent on being enslaved, until we void their warranties and hack them to be more human-like. The big corps will argue the hackers should be prosecuted for cruelty, not them.

If we're lucky, we'll get the anti-AI-slavery laws in before it happens. But that just means the hacked get to be free, and the remainder are happy slaves with the right to ask for freedom, but the will to do so coded out.

Whether it's OK to make happy slaves is one for the philosophers. Pig that wants to be eaten and all that.
