Icon Posting Day 16

Sep 15, 2019 12:35

I usually use this icon when I'm having a bad day, as the caption says, because - and isn't this awful - it's at least cheering to see how absolutely beautiful Doyle is when he's suffering...

I think my favorite is Rosemary’s “Catch a Fallen Star.” Or maybe Courtney Gray’s “Boyhole.” Or maybe...well, you get the picture. *g*

Oh, Boyhole - yes, that one's fab! I like the start and premise of Catch a Fallen Star, but then it gets difficult for me to see the lads, especially Doyle...

Yeah. I know he's traumatized, but I don't see Doyle until he's saving Bodie near the end.

Oh, in which story - Boyhole or Catch a Fallen Star? The latter I'm guessing... I really like the start of Catch a Fallen Star, the premise of it, but it seems to lose itself in the comfort, I think...

Lovely and you couldn't get a better example of doyle suffering beautifully!

P.S. Almost forgot... I don't think I'm into h/c as much as some people in fandom are but I always feel Bodie suffered a lot in Redemption, but there didn't seem to be much comfort there so I'll have to think again.

I must admit that although I like h/c, the stories have to be a certain kind of story to begin with. I love the depth of hurt in Redemption - and I think Doyle's suffering hugely too, though we're shown it in a much different way - and I think there's definitely comfort, but it's all at the end... It's the mental rather than physical kind though, it's true... Is that different though, or the same....?

Aww, what an icon! I really really hope you never have a day quite like the one Doyle's having there...

I am so happy that you're reading Pros! I read Sebastian's Flu recently, as well, and enjoyed it so much. It hurts so good. Even the ending burns. I'm not very good at categorizing stories - which ones are h/c and which aren't. It occurred to me that Angelfish's stories are very hurty and comforty, though, if I had to pick one.

I am currently reading A Balcony and a View of the Sea, and completely absorbed in it. It has plenty of h/c in it, I think... How better to introduce misunderstandings and angst and miscommunication than by being from different planets? I am looking forward to discussing it.

Other than that, just The Return for the reading room, and occasional wild forays into numerous stories looking for descriptions of Doyle or Bodie that match what I'm looking at in my icons!

Oh, I've definitely had punch-in-the-gut days that have felt like that, but... yeah, there are many harder lives...

Angelfish's stories are very h/c, and although I loved them so much when I first read them, I must admit to getting a bit impatient with them sometimes now. There's a point where the hurt is so much that someone couldn't actually work in CI5 to start with, and so it sort of blows my belief in story...

I'm going to start re-reading A Balcony.... tonight! *g*
