Hello - are you bored with seeing these pop up yet? Ah well, here's another one anyway... The lads are lurking in my head too - I think I've decided on my story for the big bang. And I've re-read Forever True and The Assassin's Daughter so far for my holiday reading. I adore Forever True, even though if you told me the plot I'd say no-no-noGood

Bleeding hearts always look so exotic and, I discovered when I looked them up to see if they had any other common names, are part of the poppy family. I love poppies. And dandelions, come to that.
I used to live in Shropshire, many, many moons ago. Before the lads were even a twinkle in Cowley's eye. Which might be why some deranged people think they can hear a touch of Scouse in my accent. It's actually 100% Scouse free, despite my near miss at being born there. But every now and then some misguided soul will swear they can hear some. My personal theory is they're misplacing the odd Shropshire-ish inflection. Although I sound about as Shropshire as David Tennant's Doctor. Tin ears, some folk.
It all looks wonderful.
I've not read 'Forever True' or the other one, but I notice there's a Forever True on AO3. It's an AU, according to that. Same story? I looked it up on Fanlore, bit dubious ( ... )

Yes, it's that Forever True. Don't worry about the CTD though, it's just a typo. Doyle is in the CID. He's a Detective Inspector in the story, but I think that's an authorial error (she's not from the UK), he acts more like a DS, and he's not in charge of any group or team. Presumably she needed to advance him a little further than DC since he didn't join CI5. There's no sequel, its a complete story in itself, and no need for a sequel that I can see. Neither of the lads has miraculous money, neither of them are invincible brilliant heroes, they're very much ordinary working men dealing with extraordinary CI5-type situations. And Doyle is a troublesome cop who can't just shut up and sit down, so he's completely in character. So your worries are all groundless! Whether you'll actually like the story - well, who knows except you. *g*

Not really lived and worked everywhere - still plenty of places to try!
CID makes a lot more sense! Although, if the author had invented a new dept., I wouldn't mind so much so long as it sounded plausible. Counter something or other maybe?
I might give that a go then - I haven't read a long story for a while. Although I have oodles of BB still to get through. Who knows if I will like it? But then I never thought I'd like some of the stuff I read for the Reading Room - but I'm glad I tried some of it now - and even the stuff I wasn't so keen on, I'm not sorry I read.
All I need now is a nice relaxing holiday - guess I'll just have to make do with Spring cleaning and a Bank Holiday :0).

I love the pictures of the woods! So dark and mysterious. The Victorian town looks interesting. I take it people live in it. Or are the pigs rented? lol The stairway looks intriguing.

The woods were beautiful - just the walk from the car park to Blists Hill, too! The pigs certainly live there, and I presume that there are people living on site (or else very near it, just for management sake)... It was fun to visit, definitely, though I always wish these places sold fiction books set in the time period too.!

You've caught the reflections in the canal beautifully.
